Relief for owners


MALACCA: The owners of 143 pre-war shophouses and houses in old Malacca were shocked when told the state had gazetted their buildings for acquisition. They knew about the state’s intention after DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng showed them a Jan 17 letter from the state Land and Mines Department here recently. Crying foul: These buildings along the Malacca River are among the 143 in the proposed gazette by the state.However, state Housing and Development Committee chairman Datuk Koh Nai Kwong urged the building owners to ignore the letter, claiming it was a mistake.
